Dr. Robert E. Jackson, M.D., M.A.C.P. was born in Houston, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Honors and Special Honors in Botany in 1975. He then attended UTMB Medical School in Galveston Texas where he was awarded the Medical Student Research Award upon graduation in 1981. Dr. Jackson completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and has been in private practice at the Texas Medical Center for over 40 years. Dr. Jackson is a Past-President of the Medical Staff of the Houston Methodist Hospital and presently serves as Medical Director of the Methodist Physicians Alliance for Quality. In 2024, Dr. Jackson received the Houston Methodist Hospital's preeminent John W. Overstreet, M.D. Award. Also, in 2024, he became a recipient of the Houston Methodist Department of Medicine Clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Jackson currently serves as Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee and the Center for Performing Arts Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College Houston Methodist Hospital campus as well as the University of Houston College of Medicine. He holds the C. Richard Stasney, M.D. Distinguished Chair in Performing Arts Medicine at Houston Methodist. While serving as the 2015 Chair of the Harris County Medical Society’s Board of Medical Legislation Dr. Jackson was instrumental in obtaining $300 million dollars for Graduate Medical Education and $4 million dollars to restore statewide programs for mentoring medical students in Primary Care. This year Dr. Jackson received the Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumni Award from UTMB Galveston Medical School as well as the Outstanding Volunteer Clinical Teacher Award from the American College of Physicians. Dr. Jackson continues to teach in his office and is dedicated to lifelong learning and education in medicine. He is grateful for the opportunity to serve his community, organized medicine, the Clinical Practice Organization (CPO) and especially his patients over the last four decades.
